I recently purchased an XD .40 sub-compact for semi-deep carry.
However, muzzle flip is an issue, at least with Winchester 40 S&W 180 gr. JHP rounds.
I am new to the 40 caliber, and I am looking for recommendations for a somewhat lighter load.
I will probably try Federal 135 gr. PD Hydra Shok for my carry ammo. Then, I would like to find some cheaper ammo for the range that feels and shoots like my choice for carry ammo.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The 135gr Hydra-shok is very mild. Not to be confused with the 135gr from CorBon or the 135gr Quick-Shok from Triton. The Triton is my carry load in my small .40, but I havent seen any lately, perhaps they're out of business? If you mail must mail order ammo (Plug...Support your local gunshop) Cheaper Than Dirt had 50 round boxes of the (medium velocity) 135gr Federal JHP cheap. Might be a winning combo there if recoil is an issue. Personally, I like light and fast stuff, preferably that fragments or expands big. The fact is, there's so much out there right now in high-tech bullets. If you want low recoil, bonded cores, subsonic, +p, fragmenting, etc, somebody makes it. Go with whatever satisfies your "stopping power" needs.
