    South African (?) 7.62x51

    Hi All,

At the gun show today, I bought a 140-round "Battle Pack" of 7.62x51 (.308) ammo that was supposed to be South African military production. There's nothing on the packaging to show one way or another.

It's a heavy brown plastic pouch that feels like it oughtta be about right for 140 rounds of .308. I have not opened it yet to see what I've got, but I'm assuming the description & round count is accurate. Anyone have any experience with this ammo? The price was right, so I might just leave it sealed up if I can get confident that it's good stuff.

    TIA for any helpful thoughts.

    Regards,
    Jim

    Additional Info

Here's what the "Battle Pack" looks like:

    Anybody got any helpful info?

    Thanks,

About the only thing I remember about it was that it used an asphalt sealant that roller-locked rifles didn't like.

I'll second tacman's impression. Ran two packs of this stuff through my .308 over a period of three months- no problems.

    Yup, good stuff.

    Ditto the good stuff.
