I used to carry, and my wife still carries, a Sig P238 with Hornaday Critical Defense ammo. Perfectly adequate for our self-defense. My wife can destroy the 10-ring using rapid fire point-and-shoot. A well-placed .380 round is great for self defense.

This can not be true or is fake as I have read and heard many times that .380acp ammo can not penetrate metal and bounces off metal barrels when shot at. LOL !!! Actually when I had my S&W Bodyguard 380 I carried it with Winchester White Box 95gr flat nose FMJ. God Bless

I have a .380 keltec and a 9mm XD. I decide which to carry by what level of concealment I need, not weather. The .380 is no .22, but the one time in my life I unholstered my pistol and thought it was really going down - I was indescribably happy to have my XD in my hand. I've got speer gold dots in the .380.

I really like 95 gr Winchester Ranger Type T. It is not easy to find, so buy a couple of boxes if you do. Excellent defense cartridge with the improved "talon" bonded round.

Note......be really careful with +P cartridges in any pocket gun. Check the literature from the manufacturer; many state NOT to use +P in these small guns, as they are not designed for these rounds and cannot handle the pressures; you don't want the barrel to fragment in your hands. I know this to be the case for Ruger's LCP.
A .380 pocket gun is designed to be a easily concealable "get off me" weapon, not a hand cannon.

I just got a second Remington 51 so I can carry two, like I typically prefer to do with revolvers. It's a 20 oz. gun, but only .8" wide/thick, and with the delayed blowback action it gives me an excellent recovery time between shots. They've done fine with Critical Defense and XTP's, but I'm sorting out a 100g LRNFP cast bullet handload that I'll get to about 900. It functions fine and when I'm somewhat patient I can put 5/8 into a half-dollar sized group, at 35' from a kneeling rest, with the remainder within a couple of inches or so. Although it's traditional rap has been for its micro/vestigial sights, it was of course designed for close range point shooting. It's an extension of my arm, and it's easy to put a bunch of bullets into a target up close and fast.
I'm also going to try a 95g LHP and see how it does.

I carry a 380 as a BUG. Having said that if someone were to approach me and ask for my wallet they will get the bug as it is in my right rear pocket in a wallet holster. I carry Winchester +p round JHP. Living in Florida heavy clothes are not an issue. At that close of range I don't think heavy clothes would protect him much.

I use a Body Guard 380 for a backup in a ankle holster. I use only Gold Dots in all my handguns.
