Anyone use Guard Dog in their 9mm?
A friend recently bought a box for his home ammo per the salesman's suggestion at Gander Mountain a couple weeks ago. I expressed that I have never shot it but I was skeptical on it being basically 100gr after you take the polymer out and that penetration is minimal (which some people like in their homes but this guy lives in a big house with no neighbors).
My skepticism was furthered by this video test of it from TNoutdoors (whose videos I love)

It might work for those from NJ that are not allowed hollow points.

My Guard Dog won't fit in a 9mm.

Good point. Didn't think of that. I'd certainly use that if HPs were not allowed in my state!

I have the Guard Dog in 40 S&W and I think it is just fine. In any defensive ammunition you don't want over penetration so that shouldn't be an issue. The only thing that your friend should concern himself with is the amount of energy a SD round has and the consistency the round has in performance. The idea of an expanding full metal jacket is fantastic in my opinion because the likelihood that it would not expand upon impact is less than with most hollow-point rounds. As far as the kinetic energy is concerned, this round is rated just about the same as most other SD rounds in ft-lbs (at least the 40S&W is, I haven't looked at the 9mm). Hope my opinion helps in some way.

I don't like light-for-caliber bullets.
I do use the Federal "LE" 124 gr +P EFMJ round in my 9mm pistols. If you look up the testing at GoldenLoki, you'll see some good results even out of a short barrel. I like the idea of expanding bullets that are immune to getting the hollow cavity plugged, crushed by barriers, or wrapped by clothing fibers. And if the EFMJ fails to expand, you still have a SWC blunt nose bullet profile.
I also recently got some 200 gr +P EFMJ for my .45.

Just got back from the range. Ran some of the 200 gr .45 +P EFMJ through my G30. All I can say is...wow! Accurate (tore up the bullseye), low flash, cycled through perfectly. My first 3-shot group was almost one hole. This is good stuff.

I like the concept but they chose a bullet that is too light, which is reflected in it's shallower penetration.
