Why is .22 Long Rifle ammo in such high demand right now?

This is a serious question for my understanding.

I can understand service caliber ammo and .223/5.56 and 7.62 being in high demand, but 22LR? Every article/post I see that mentions ammo shortages seems to include 22LR. What am I missing?

Cheap enough.....can buy reasonably in 500 brick amounts......accurate and can penetrate a 1/2" wood board at +400 yards......lethal little package.....Most .22 cals. are overlooked for CCW but I've found them a good alternative for ladies.

Cheap practice,so now with the Obama induced ammo shortage lot of folks are hesitant to shoot up there range ammo not knowing when they can find a resupply. So break out the .22's & carry on!

If 223/5.56 gets banned or rationed, we would practice our rifle skills with 22lr. Cheaper and more plentiful in the long run

You can buy 30,000 rounds cheap now before whatever numbskull legislation gets shoved down our throats and actually have something to shoot out of rifles and pistols for the next 10 years.

The majority of gun owners own a 22.
22s are very versitle for training, hunting and do have a tactical application.
If the country goes to crap having a safe full of 22s and ammo would be akin to being rich. You could barter for just about anything you wanted.
All ammo is in high demand, even birdshot and it aint even dove season yet. My local walmart got in a new shipment of ammo today. Kind of grim looking.
I do believe there are alot of supressed 22s floating around.

Lots of people stocking up, and .22 is a cheap way to stockpile thousands of rounds. There are also some newcomers to the world of guns, and .22 is a good place to start. No more versatile round than a .22.... cheap, quiet, light, accurate, can take down nearly any game there is with good shot placement, and more effective as a self-defense round than many give credit.

Cheap to shoot, and fun to boot. With no idea how many weeks (months??) until supply and price of larger ammo stabilizes, I think a lot of people are reluctant to use up their reserves. 22's let people get out to the range and practice without using up their defense/hunting ammo

My guess is that folks want to plink with the .22 LR and save the "good stuff" for other purposes.

Actually, I could use some more .22 and .22 mag.
Probably not a bad suggestion to beef up the ammo pile.

I was at Walmart the other day and they had tons of it. Mostly cheap 550 bricks.

After all of this comes down on us it will be the "Coin of the Relm". It will be the best barter device anyone could own.
