    low recoil 38 special suggestion

Could you suggest a 38 sp round with low recoil to teach my mother with.
4" barrel and full size revolver but, I'd still like to keep it real easy at first.
    Thanks

I'd say just avoid anything that is +P and opt for the heavier 130 or 148 gr. bullets.

If you know someone who reloads, try 2 grains of trail boss powder under 148 grain wadcutter. It's like shooting a 22lr. You might check with buffalo arms and get some cowboy loads for a 38. they tend to be milder than the typical factory load. good luck

    Low Recoil Handgun Ammo

Have heard the Hornady Critical Defense is low flash/low recoil.

Their standard Critical Defense is not a low recoil round but they do make one called, cleverly enough, Critical Defense Lite.

    low recoil 38 special suggestion

I can assure you that this is the definitive answer:

Remington Express Targetmaster (R38S3) 148gr Lead Wadcutter

This is the lightest load I've ever fired from 38 special. This load is confidence inspiring.

You basically need what's commonly referred to as a "cowboy load".

The problem is finding it. I bought all my ammo prior to the election, so I'm not looking - but I was shocked that I couldn't find a single link for you that wasn't sold out.

I'd say be careful even with anything "not +P." My wife still can't handle a 130 grain standard 38 SPL in an SP101. It will be great if your mother can, but don't assume so. I'm watching the recommendations too.

Any brand 148 gr. target load. I like PMC. A lot of the 130 gr. FMJ's are mild as well.

I second the Hornady Lite loads. Can't find them locally tho. Have used Ten-X cowboy loads. Wife liked them.

Why the recommendation for +P loads when he wants low recoil?

Visit a gun show or order some 148 g LSWC rounds target. Recoil is extremly low. I load them all the time. Very accurate.

Nobody has recommended +P loads. I told him to avoid anything +P and gwgw60 said be careful even when it doesn't say +P. Nobody has told him to seek them out.
