Winter vs Summer SD ammo selection?
This is a discussion on Winter vs Summer SD ammo selection? within the Defensive Ammunition & Ballistics forums, part of the Defensive Carry Discussions category; Is there any reason to carry different ammo accordingly.
I know some hollow point ammo will clog slightly with more material from jackets and such.

Alot of talk with good self defense ammo is barrier penetration so i figured i would see what you guys thought about seasonal selection.
Different weights help at all with heavier clothing? Not that im a fan, but i guess this is where Critical duty/defense/ guard dog type stuff is popular.
Right now i carry HST 124+p 9mm in my P2000sk.
my other past load out/ options have been
>HST 124gr
>Ranger T 124gr +p
>Ranger 147gr (was cary load for about a year)
>Corbon DPX 115gr +p (curious if better than my hst +p
>Gold Dot 124+p

It probably doesn't make that much difference. If you want a heavier bullet, carry a .45 during winter time or switch to bonded ammo.
By the way, I use the same setup as you do. LEM? hehe

Pick a good SD round that cycles well in your gun and that you shoot well with and don't over-think it.
I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it.

I've found that 230 gr Federal HST's go bang both in winter and summer. :)

Yup the HST is a great round and one that I've tested allot with no clogging issues, until i shot into about 8 layers of denim, that got it to fail to expand... But the DPX solid copper went thru and expanded... Here are some HST in .45 .40 and 9mm.

Stick with any of the currently offered premium JHPs and you should be fine all year long.

Any of these should be just fine.
