Re: Reliability of 40 Caliber Underwood Ammo?

I haven't tried the Underwood ammo but I've tried the 135g .40 Corbon and had feeding issues in my SP2022. Didnt try them in my P226. Buy a box and test it out.

underwood is a good brand, and I've never had any issues with it, very reliable ammo, I think they use a speer gold dot bullet for their JHP's .. try a box and see how you gun works with it, I've only come across one type of ammo that does not feed well in my G30, Federal's older Tactical Bonded rounds...

The bullet profile may be an important issue. I have been using the hot 155 grain JHP's and the recoil impulse/slide velocity should be close. You may just have to bite the bullet and get a box to try......

The underwood ammo is great ammo an very reliable. I have been using it since I can't find the Speer gold dots. The numbers on the Fps are pretty accurate. They are one of the few that I have found that run at that velocity.

Underwood generally has a good reputation for it's quality, but they really do crank up the velocities to extreme levels. TNOutdoors9 has done some tests of their ammo in several calibers and saw that in some cases their extreme velocities were causing jacket separation even with bonded bullets like the Gold Dot. If you can make a bonded bullet lose it's jacket, that is pretty impressive.

I have shot Underwood 10mm 180gr TMJ, 180gr GD, .45ACP 230gr GD and some of their 9mm - it is all good shooting, clean, reliable, consistant ammo.

How good is this Nosler JHP bullet? I know they make excellent rifle bullets I use. Just used to getting the great Gold Dots.

I fired a box of 135gr .40 by Underwood through my M&P40c and didn't have one FTF, they worked like a champ but the recoil was sharp. I felt it in my hand each pull of the trigger it was like a shockwave going into your hand.

Not only is it good ammo, it hits the advertised velocity most times. And it is loaded with a Speer Gold Dot bullet.

Check out tnoutdoors9 channel on youtube. He tests a lot of Underwood ammo.
