Vihtavauri .223 and .308 choices
There is a gun shop near me that is selling this gun powder at a discounted price because they are closing down. I've never used it, but I have limited knowledge of these powders and I need to make a decision on this deal asap.
What powders are good for .223 and .308 out of these options.
N540
N560
N140
N150
N160
N135

Actually I have always used N133 for .223 - 24.8 behind a 55 grainer - my load so not a recommendation per se - but did come from their load data way back. They regard this powder as a special for the cal, tho I suspect N135 will be close.
I still use RL7 for .308 but have used N140 for my .243 loads and reckon that would be my choice for .308.
I haven't checked but I suspect N160 is a much slower powder and possibly not so useful - N150 will be between that and the N140.
540 and 560 I know nothing about.
BTW - if they have any N110 - it's great for handgun mag loads - very clean burn. VV is expensive stuff normally so if you can get a good deal it's good powder.
N310 is or was the VV near equivalent to Bullseye - good for light loads.

One of the very best Highpower shooters at our club uses VV 540 in his .223 loads. I do not know the weight he loads but am certain he said 540. You might go to http://www.highpowerforum.com/ and look at some of the posts about reloading there.
Chris is right about N110. I use it in full-power .357 mag pistol loads and it is very, very satisfactory.

Andrew

I found some data in a few of my books and realized I can use somem of these powders in .303 and 35 Rem.
I'm getting this stuff for $10 per pound if I buy it all. Probable about 20lbs of it.
