Plentiful ammo: compare .22 with pellet gun

A friend of mine posted this on his facebook page, and I wanted to share. Post a pic of your pellet gun, if you have one. They are really fun and cheap to shoot. .22 rimfire and pellet gun ammo.jpg

Last week I was hanging out with my son while he happily plinked away with his pellet gun in the back yard. No noise, no fuss, and he was ripping holes through both sides of bean cans on the other side of the yard with only 7 pumps.

Yeah, I got a little jealous. Then I remembered that I have $60 in gift cards to Academy Sports.

Yup, time to relive the childhood. I'll try to remember to post back here with what I get.

I gotta admit, I do miss my pellet/bb guns. I can't even begin to count how many hours I spent plinking with one as a kid..

Europeans do lots of high end air rifle shooting. Lets face it; Many of us learned our fundamentals on bb guns.

The 22 caliber plet guns are very effective on small animals.

And a 22 CB cap is a fun, quiet way to enjoy the 22 rimfire.
Ignorance is a long way from stupid, but left unchecked, can get there real fast.

I have an airsoft, my son has 2 and my brother one. We shoot the heck out of cardboard boxes wrapped in duct tape in my back yard. Time trials and shooting while moving (slowly in my case). I just try to practice perfect and it has made a significant difference on the range. Oh, and I have a pump pellet gun which is just waiting for my neighbors cat to come into my yard and try for the parrots in their outdoor cage.

Beeman P-1 pistol, RWS 34 and Beeman R9 air rifles, all in .177 cal. The R9 is without a doubt the most accurate weapon I own.

I ran over 25,000 rounds through the P-1 before I had my first centerfire handgun... even in rimfire that would have been expensive!

Pellet guns are fun and good for what they are, but that picture doesn't tell everything - 36gr vs 8gr, 1100 fps vs 700 to 1100 fps, weight of gun, and rapidity of fire.

I have a Benjamin 397 I bought about 20 years ago. At 8 pumps that thing is a loud as long-barreled .22 shooting standard velocity rounds. Or at least it seems that way. But five pumps provide ample oomph for squirrels that have their eyes set on PEF's attic for a home.

I also have a Daisy 840 and a "pink" Red Ryder that I used to teach my daughters the fundamentals. Many a pop can have died a painful death by my sharp shootin' Annie Oakleys.

...right about the Benjamin being sharp-sounding...I went to CB caps because they were quieter...
