.45 acp vs. 9mm one more time

First let me say I like 9mm I even carry one at times. Also if your my age you got tired of this discussion back in the 80's. But since that time so many improvements have been made to ammo that I believe makes a 9mm more effective. But now my point those same improvments have also made my beloved 45acp better too. I will continue to carry a 45 when clothing allows me and a 9mm when clothing dictates, but In my simple mind I think good 9mm bullets will expand I know 45's won't shrink! opinions? (I know I left out the 40 and others).

Well I'm glad we can settle this once and for all. The .45 is the best round ever.

In all seriousness, caliber is determined by platform. Folks who deal with trauma divide gunshot wounds into handguns and long guns...not .40 and over vs 9mm and under.

Shoot the torso. If that does not work, shoot the head. That is about the best you can do with a firearm designed for single-handed use.

I changed my mind... the 9mm is the best round ever. Final answer.

    Or the .40, maybe.

I'm more concerned about where the hole is rather than how large or small it is. I carry either a 9mm or .45, depending on by mood.

What? There have been discussions on the 9mm vs. 45ACP? Next you are going to tell me there have been discussions on "Revolver Vs. Semi-Auto"!

In all seriousness though, there were probably discussions of "38 Long Colt vs. 45 Long Colt" back in old west saloons. So I surmise it is a topic that will be with us for generations to come. I have always subscribed to the philosophy that one should carry the largest caliber you can score fast, accurate hits with. So in my opinion if a 9mm fulfills that for you, then great. If you can pop off 45ACP rounds faster than a chubby kid eats cookies, and do so accurately, even better. Big bullets do work better in terms of performance, there is no doubt about that. But the best terminal performance in the world is of no avail to you if you can not get the rounds to hit meat & bone.

Given advances in cartridge performance since then, the 'eighties have little to do with the current discussion. That said, it all becomes a matter of personal preference. Personally, I like both calibers, but I prefer the nine for edc. I prefer two stacks of nine over one stack of eight.

Carry the biggest caliber you can. Then practice until you can go bigger.

The 9mm will get you thru the night. The 45 will make sure you are still there the next day.
Ignorance is a long way from stupid, but left unchecked, can get there real fast.

    Nope, not again.

    9. We have learned from bitter experience that discussions of certain subjects (politics, religion, abortion, sexual orientation, etc) often degenerate quickly. For this reason, we DO NOT allow the discussion of these topics. We also discourage "caliber war" threads and strongly encourage you not to post a thread starting one. Regardless of your level of experience, caliber is a personal preference and what is right for you may not be right for others.
