A ~20mm hand cannon can be quite effective, especially if of the surgical tubing sort. Ask any desert hare and squirrel within 10mi of where I grew up ...

I love slingshots. Haven't used one for years. Hmmmm ... now, where did I put that thing?

The .40S&W just gets no respect, does it? They completely skipped it in the "testing."

And the .44mag was the only one to damage the target, apparently. Bad aim?

Interesting comparison, though. Can't imagine carrying a stash of 1" steel balls around. Give me a decent pistol caliber, any day of the week.

I'd like to see the ballistic gell test. Definately a skull-crusher, but will it break ribs?
I don't always have nothing to say, but when I do, I post it on Facebook.

I wouldn't want to be struck in the elbow, kneecap or forehead, with a 1" steel ball.

Of course, until they invent a revolving method of flinging multiple steel balls quickly ... oh, wait!

A baseball bat probably hits harder than most handgun calibers also, but you don't get much penetration with a bat. and I can't swing it as fast as I can sling lead.

Lead ball might be more damaging than steel. Smaller than 20mm might be more lethal even if less force.

I thought that the pendulum/caliber results were interesting but, not necessarily conclusive of anything...or are they?

Not certain what bearing impact energy has on lethality (if any) but, it is something less often seen or discussed than the more traditional Ballistic JELL-O testing.

So I thought I would just open the topic up to member comment and O-penguin.

Very interesting video, as for the impact power for lethality, that is one of two stats manufacturers mention for ammo. It causes the blunt trauma, wh7ch can be devestating. Think of it like one hit from a baseball bat to the chest will break more ribs than one shot from just about any handgun, and broken ribs can equal punctured organs such as lungs and less commonly heart. IMO slingshot damage on a human can be devastating and even stop a BG with less chance of collateral damage, but I will stick to my handgun with penetration and multiple shots... :D

    Some interesting comments so far.
I got slammed in the jaw with a 2X4 in my younger days (don't ask) and that was no picnic either.
I think I would have rather got the 1" ball delivered VIA slingshot.

You just brought me back to high school... I had a dumb axe friend that swung a tire iron at an inflated tire and caught the bounce back with his face. Gore.

After watching the video, I just want a 44 magnum.

All well and good but who carries a slingshot around for self defense ? I'm thinking if you pulled a slingshot on a BG he might a least die laughing.
