My usual carry piece is a S&W 4516. It performs well with 230g speer gold dots or Federal hydra shock 230g bullets. Which one would be the most effective on a BG.

Why do I carry a Gun? Because I can't carry a Cop
Either bullet design should work effectively. I have used both at times.

Either Is a excellent choice what ever is easier to get locally
winchester 230gr sxt's,they will put a world of hurt on a bg. sj
My gun shoots either equally as well. Right now I have 230g hydra-shoks b/c they are easier to get.

I believe the Hydrashoks have improved and doubt I would mind which - but have chosen to use GD's now for quite some time.
My expansion wet pack tests did show a very uniform and reliable expansion from the GD's which I felt slightly bettered the Fed ammo.
Really doubt it'd be a biggie tho in the end - if put to the test.

Gold Dots in my Taurus 605, Hydroshocks in my Makorov .380. The GoldDot Shortbarrel are great in 38+P. My Mak while digest anything that I feed it and Hydroshocks are very accurate out of it (plus I haven't shot them all yet).
I actually use both. I like the Gold Dot's in my Ultra CDP and the Hydra Shock's in my Colt Combat Commander and aslo Gold Dot's in my Pro Tactical. Although either will work fine in all three. They are my top two defense rounds.

I vote for Monica Lewinsky's Ex-Boyfriend's Wife for President.....Not!
i carry a 457 at times and it is loaded with Hydro's. either would be good.

Thanks.......The GD and HS will both shoot to the POA in my little 4516. I don't shoot Cor Bon much anymore because there really hard on the action and the gun wil not print to point of aim with the sights centered

Well the Hydrashok was the standard for many years and it seems that Gold Dots are the new standard IMO. I buy Hydras because I can get boxes of 50 for $21.00 from cheaper than dirt. Gold Dots are almost the same price for 20 rounds. There is not a big enough difference in performance for me to go with GDs.
Yeah I like Glocks, wanna fight about it!
Array
Your asking a opinion based question on individuals who have matched that bullet type to that exact gun.
Is there a noticiable difference? IMO there is not. Bodies of any type do not relay the caliber/bullet type to the brain when the projectile enters the body.
Due your own test Is all I can say. My glock serial # 0002 against your glock serial # 0001 May feed/shoot differn't in are consecutive serial number guns.
I use both- hi confidence rounds, try each and see
which operates best.

HS are getting a bit old in the tooth in today's standards...
GD are just fine, in most scenarios...
If you want to upgrade to the newer generation bullets, I would look seriously at the Federal HST and CorBon's DPX....
Dead
I won't use HS anymore after recovering several unexpanded rounds. I carry Rangers now, but go with GD if they are easy for you to get.
