    Most unnecessary caliber ever made

I was thinking about the hundreds upon hundreds of calibers/cartridges of ammo that have been made throughout history. Some have been legends and we all know them (.45ACP/LC, 9mm, .357, 30-30, 7.62x39, etc.) but there have been some calibers that have been just flat out busts or never caught on with the public or even worse just sucked and had terrible performance in general. So what do you guys feel is the most pointless or useless caliber ever made? It can be pistol or rifle. The answers should be interesting for sure! Here is my pick

9mm Federal Rimmed or 45 GAP.

9mm Federal was kind of a good idea to have a 9mm cartridge that would function normally without moon clips or other means in revolvers. But most revolver shooters weren't interested in it, Charter Arms was the only company making revolvers for it (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) and the cartridges would fit right into a 38 S&W chamber and produce very unpleasant kabooms.

45 GAP- is any explanation necessary?

The .25 AP. You may make someone mad if you shoot them with it.

I agree, 45 GAP, the answer to a question that was never asked. I would add the 22 Rem Jet, interesting concept a varmint load for a revolver but plagued with too many problems.

    .600 NE *.

Haven't been any Tyrannosaurs around for ages.

    * This is said in sarcasm, actually. I'm sure the .600 NE would work just dandy on a 15ft African elephant, or similar, though I'd hate to give odds at being capable of making a follow-up shot with a broken shoulder.

    Shoulder?

    SHOULDER?

Pretty sure you're required to turn in your man card if you shoot the .600 NE in anything but a revolver:

The .45 GAP is what immediately comes to mind.

I am sure if I think for a bit I can some up with some rifle rounds too.

Yup. About the only way I'd come near one would be with a butt stock and mounting it to the shoulder. But I imagine I'd only get one "swing" at the thing. Was sarcasm, remember.

I get the concept of the .45 GAP, shorter round to allow a smaller grip for the primarily female small hands in LE, yet retaining the potential of the .45 ACP. Fact is, the demand never materialized, although the FHP carries it.

But yeah I would vote 45 gap what one gun fires it ?

And people knock 25 but you put 8 of thous into the soft parts of someone it tends to do something ...

Oh how about 9x21 ? Mostly cause the dern thing was made to keep the antis happy

And of course the is the .700 *** round 267235_2297652847790_1443189422_32714736_3675712_n-tfb.jpg

Wasn't 9 x21 (and .38 Super too) developed to get around the restrictions on civilian use of 9mm though, WrongRecroom? That takes them out of the useless category for me.

Perhaps the 4.7x33. I don't want to know the attempt at innovation, but I don't think they ever got it quite right.
