Hornady XTP, or a 225 weight lead TC over 6.5 grains of Unique.
But verify that in a manual as I am just going off memory.
I get over 900 fps, a little faster with the lead.

IF I was going to use a handload in the 45 ACP as a carry load, it would probably be my practice load. A 200 grn LSWC over 5.0 grns of Titegroup.

I don't know for sure. It should be around 900, middle of the road load.

I would use 200 gr. LSWC and 4.8 grs of WST. Very clean load with 884 fps out of both of my Kimber custom 2's.

230 grain hardcast lead - 5.2 grains of bullseye Win primers (also on memory always verify via manual)
Also load same combo with Win 231 but forget the powder charge and don't have my notes handy

    Cool

I know the question was about hand loaded favorite rounds for carry and self defense.

Not for hunting game animals but for EDC.

I like the 230 grain Gold Dots or Golden Sabers in the factory loading.

Both are good rounds that have a track record of success and they are what the LEO's in my neck of the swamp are issued.

I didn't know 200gr SWC's were popular to some for self defense purposes. I still laugh, one time at the range a guy said the same thing making the comment that they (200gr SWC) would expand to the size of your thumb...yeah right, more likely cut a .45" hole in and out, cookie cutter style.

I like Power Pistol for warmer .45 ACP loads. Using 8.1gr of Power Pistol, a 230gr bullet (XTP, or insert your favorite design) is moving to just shy of 1,000 fps from my Glock 21 (avg was 993 fps).

Also, 7.0gr PP under a 250gr hardcast does around 975 fps from the Glock 21, great for woods/hunting use.

More like a .30 caliber hole in tissue. In paper yes pretty close to .45.

For many years before reliably expanding bullets (and it became politically incorrect), my #1 SD load was a 200 gr. SWC loaded with 7.2 gr. Unique. 1040 fps out of 5" barrel. Still like it for a woods load.

For many years before that the lead round nose bullet and before t hat Mini ball was the choice before that round lead ball was king.
