Silver Bear Ammo, Anybody Ever Used It?
A friend can get me 1000 rds of Silver Bear ammo for 89.00. Has anybody ever used this ammo before? I'd like ot make sure it's good stuff for training before I buy it.

My older brother bought a bunch of the stuff in 9x18 when he got his Makarov, we shot all of it up and it seemed ok in that application. I believe that it is not brass cased sometimes has some corrosion problems with the cases. They are Berdan Primed, which i belive means that they can not be reloaded. It really depends on what you intend to shoot it out of. With a lot of the Russian made ammo it seems that if you feed it to weapons from the same region, Makarovs, AK's (MY Romanian WASR loves Wolf) , Makarovs, they they will eat the stuff all day and with a good cleaning will prolly be fine, but sometimes American weapons have problems with this ammo.
Heres a page I found that had some info, trust it or not.

Yep - have used it for 9x18 and 9x19 also. Indeed steel cased - so disposable.
All mine thus far has been reliable. I also have had ''Brown Bear'' ammo too - all this stuff seems about same in essence.

I have not tried silver bear but have fired golden bear 9x19. It seems to be decent practice ammo. The only problems I have had with it is a few FTEs from my P-95. Failures of any kind in this gun are very rare. Every time it has happened is after the gun gets dirty after 150 rounds or so. Seems the steel cases are a little stickier than brass and more prone to hang up on the internal surfaces of the gun once some grime builds up. Bring a bore snake with you to the range and run it throug every 100 rounds or so and you shouldn't have a problem.

I've tried some and not had any problems with it....it can burn a little dirtier than some, and other folks have had the (steel) cases stick sometimes, but it is what is: bargain plinking ammo.
If the price is right to you, then go ahead.
