    Winchester 110gr. .357 JHP ammo?

I'am referring to the "personal protection" ammo made by winchester in the 50rd. white box. These shot beautifully out of my new ruger sp101 this weekend, with not much more felt recoilt than the .38 158gr. +p LSWCHP I was also shooting. My question is are my better off with these of a .357 load in 125gr. for personal protection? Is there any data on the performance of these bullets as far as expansion and penatration? And is there any real differance between 110gr. and 125 gr. loads?

Either 110gr or 125gr is more than enough for personal defense. I would have to look at performance data, but typically speaking, the lighter grained bullets travel abit faster. Shooting either of the grains out of a 357 will make the bullet haul butt to it's intended target.

As for "real" difference; well, thats something up to debate. I don't think there is enough of a difference in bullet performance to say there is a "realist" difference that would make one bullet noticeably better than the other.

Choose whatever you shoot well with, and trust that it will do it's job if you do yours (Shot placement).

    Thumbs down

I bought a box of the WW 110grain Personal Defense .357 magnum last year.
I had three rounds out of the box that did not go bang. I will not trust the WW white box stuff anymore.

I've never had a problem with white box ammo. It just goes to show you why you need to shoot a good amount of ammo before you can decide what you want to carry.

I have a problem with the 110gr and penetration into vitals. It won't penetrate a jacket and heavy leather belt. Remember Super Vels? Seems they're not around anymore and they had HUGE issues after their "high speed, low weight" hype.

Heavier bullet = penetration into vitals and through bone.

357 mag.125gr. min for ccw a 4 decade track record of %95-%97 one shot stops who can argue its not effective. It has a papered track record of real shootings and D.O.A.

    WWB 110gr 357' are downloaded
    to 1295fps.Cor-bon 110gr JHP's
are at 1500fps.I've fired the WWB
110gr and didn't like the excess-
ive muzzle flash and they were
not real accurate in my 3" 65-3.
I would go with 125gr as a minimum in 357mag but they
will be a handfull in a small frame
    revolver.

In my 66-1 2.5 I like the golden Saber Rem. 125gr. med. speed load. And a reload of 8.5grs. of Unique under a 125 gr. JHP. Its is about the same as the factory load.
