How much ammo do you bring to the range?

I was wondering how many types of ammo do you bring to the range; and how much of each.
I shoot my 9mm most of the time at the range. I don't shoot my XD.40sc very much so I don't usually have much of that in the range bag. I now have an AR15 and want to know how much rifle ammo you guys go through on a range outing too?

    I'll take
    2 hundred rounds of 9mm
50 rounds of .40 (in case I feel like shooting it)
I'm not sure yet how much .223 I should be taking with me yet...

I usually put about 300 rounds through the HK and another 200 or so through one of the rifles......

You go through all that on a single trip to the range? Wow. How often do you go?

Depends. What is your range objective and limitations? If its the typical square range with the usual restrictions, the emphasis is accuracy.

For me, granted this is very individual, more ammo than I need, but only shoot for one hour. I find that beyond an hour, I start to degrade and therefore waste only time and money.

I always shoot my primary and BUG, 80%/20% respectively, but what is the mission? Are you testing a new gun, ammo testing, sighting in, working on a manipulation or gun problem, etc...? Firing more that two weapons is a waste of good range time for me.

If dry firing isn't part of your daily, weekly routine, most people only see marginal improvements in skill at the range.

Too finally answer the question: 200 rounds primary, 100 secondary, 300 of purpose of range visit.

I may be alone on this, but its worked for me.

He asked how much we bring, not what we go through.

I don't get to shoot as much as I'd like to until recently, so when I go I try to shoot a little of everything, this also includes other people shooting some of my guns.

My trips to the range are increasing and my round count is going down thank God, but when I can go I'll stay for as long as I can.

Thus far I've never come home with a totally empty ammo carrier, but I've put some large dents in my supply.

Anyway, that's why I bring alot.

I usually try to keep the following in my ammo boxes when I go to shoot.

    400 45 acp
    3 - 600 357 mag
    300 44 mag
    500 44-40
    400 380 acp
    1000 .22 cal
    3-500 7.62x39

I usually will go through between 200 and 600 rds total of any combination of those rds, just depending on what I feel like shooting that day. If I am out for the weekend at camp, I could easily go through up to 1000 rds of ammo.

Depending on the time of year, I will throw some other assorted rifle rds in with the mix of 32 win special, 35 rem, 270, or 30.06.

I don't shoot at a public range very often, but at deer camp where we have one set up so, it really just depends on the mood that day and who else is around.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.
