    .38 Special Snub Nose ammo

yet another question of what ammo to carry. I have some winchester silvertip +p hollowpoints 125 gr. I was told by someone very knowledgeable that with any 2" barrel, most hp loads will not expand except for "Speer .38spl 135gr +P Short Barrel Load,Corbon 110gr DPX +P H/P." He recommended 148 gr wadcutters because it cuts a good caliber sized wound track but has low recoil which gives better accuracy. He also said that since you could use them for target practice you would know exactly what to expect when you shoot it in self defense situations which makes good sense to me. Just wondering what you guys think.

I've read that before. I have also read somewhere that Speer Gold Dots are the way to go. I don't think anybody has THE answer. I carry Black Hills +P 125 Gr. JHP.

I carry the Speer Gold Dots Short barrel.

But as said there isn't one answer. I think you will be well served by any major ammo manufacter

I carry either Remington Golden Saber 125gr +P or the Speer 135gr +P short barrel load in my 642. Plenty of loads will get the job done but I prefer +P to get a bit more penetration from the short barrel.

Federal 110 Grain Low Recoil Ammo

I just bought a box of Federal 110 grain JHP "Low Recoil Personal Protection" ammo. I have yet to shoot it in my 642 but wanted to find out if anyone had heard of the performance of this round for personal protection. Anybody familiar with this round? Thanks.

The tests I saw on the .38 110gr stuff wasn't as good as the 135 Speer +P stuff, obviously! But if it's what you can use best it sure beats a beating an attacker with the pistol!!

    I carry either 110 grain +P or 125 grain +P in Corbon.

It all depends on what my local "guns and ammo emporium" has on the shelf when I go to buy ammo. I'm not a fan of the .38 SPL, but it is my BUG.

Handgunner Magazine has a good article on .38 ammo this month.

When I carry 38 spl in my Mod 60 its 135 +P Gold Dot Short Barrel and as far as 357 Magnum load 125 Golden Sabers. These almost fell the same for recoil to me but the Remmington load shoots more accurate for me. FOr some reason CorBons just don't shoot well from any of my guns but the DPX concept is interesting. I would like to see what Double Tap could do with that load.
