Once again it looks like the FBI flopped on their choice of 9mm and what ammo worked in it. Or do they get a special version of the G2 that will never be released to the public? The Gold Dot +P 124 grain is probably the most used 9mm in LE. A lot of large US city LE use it as well as whole country's such as France. I don't see Speer or the FBI making a mistake like this. There is something strange going on here but we will never know.

    what are they thinking

Ok I agree, that I do not understand why the FED's came up with the G2 round, or what they are thinking.

Years ago the FED's issued 147 Gr Hydro Shoke. The box number ended with a "G" as in it was manufactured for the Goverment. It was said these rounds where 1100 FPS, but I never saw a local test, but I'll attest they had a good amount of recoil for a 9mm.

Today, I work for a local agency that issues ammo or allows us to carry our preferance..
SO, I carry the 124 gr Speer Gold Dot.

Reason, I prefer the lessor recoil so multi rounds firing is faster. I've found that with +P rounds the noise of the weapon flips up more, and it takes longer to regain sights.

Back to the drawing board for Speer. They have their work cut out for them in order to outperform their 124+P.

It seems the feds are blowin' it again, just like they did in the 80s.
Feds are ignoring their own research to go with the low-performing G2 round with a JHP full of polymer.
Feds are beyond 'pathetic' these days; Hope they don't drag Speer down with them.

The Federal 147gr HSTs are proven as are the Winchester PDX1 147 grain, the Barnes & Double Tap loads.
I prefer the longest proven Speer GDHP in 124gr +P. It has been one of the highest performing 9mm rounds to date, in LE.
Many Glock owners choose the Win Rangers, which are long-proven performers.

Government work, what did they expect. When has putting something into the hands of the government improved a product? They had some products that worked very well then they decided to "governatize" it. Not surprised at the result. I'll keep shooting my HST rounds for SD. Hopefully the government won't decide to "improve" them

But what about the millions of dollars we can use to test and creat a far less effective HST for your self defence pleasure? Did we mention it's for science and the children?

9mm should be moving 1200fps, not 960. As others said 124+p has a lot of street cred, why reinvent the wheel?

I thought maybe his testing was flawed at first; after all, normally he doesn't use the clear stuff. But even if the clear gel is substandard that doesn't explain shooting through five one-gallon water jugs and out into the yard! Might as well just use ball ammo then. At first blush this doesn't look like a very good round. I'll be sticking with HST and the original G.D. bullet as loaded by Underwood.

Has anyone actually confirmed this is the new FBI round? I saw the pamphlet that got floated around the web awhile back, but haven't seen it through any official channels.

Who only uses a 124 grain in a 9? If you are not trying to blow the slide off of the weapon, your grain ain't enough!

It doesn't look good for the Speer home team, at least not with this one.
