I just bought some Winchester Ranger T and I will carry them in both my 5" and 3" 1911. There are other brands that also show very good expansion in all sized barrels, I prefer these. Mike Z

    I have two .45s , an SA Champion and a SIG P245 ( both 4" barrels )

I generally stick with 230 gr bullet weights , as I don't feel the
velocity loss is enough to give up the advantage of bullet mass.

The only JHP I can get for the .45 is Remington, luckily my commander loves them.

Does not matter, just pick the load for the intended use, ie ball for tgts and a premium self defense load that works in your hand gun for carry

I just put 10rds of 185gr XTP into 3" at 10m out of my G30 at the range yesterday. The XTP family has been the most consistently accurate bullet in every gun I've owned.

Federal 230 grain Hydrashock JHP and my XD45 Service work just fine.

    Depends.

If youre talking carry ammo, you cannot beat 230gr Gold Dots. Hydroshok was the cat's pajamas, 30yrs ago, when it was released, but it's long since been outpaced. Avoid anything hotter than standard pressure.

If youre talking plinkers and IDPA/IPSC/USPSA factory ball goodies... nothing beats Magtech.

Avoid Walmart WWB, Blazer and Wolf.
