    Winchester Silver Tips

I lucked into a few boxes of 9mm Silver Tip hollow points at a good price, free! I know the design is dated but I was thinking for summer carry in hot humid Arkansas with light to practically no clothes they should be OK. Thoughts?

I can vouch for 3 cases of DRT in the Detroit area with .357mag, (148gr?) all from a S&W 586 dept issue in the early '80s.
Seeing is believing. The dirtbags went down hard. Most agencies have gone to the 'Rangers' for Winchester, though.

If they are 115 gr, Ballistics 101 says they are doing 1225 fps and 383 ft-lbs of ME wich put them right in the game with a 124 gr. PDX1, every animal I have ever shot with a Silvertip fell down and died so I like them and your price on them was excellent.

My question is, how many times has that bullet done it's job for the LEO's over its lifetime? I own 250 rounds of it and am not afraid to carry it for defense.

Edit question: How many times has it done its job period.

    FBI-Miami Shootout

Blaming that fiasco on the 9mm Silvertip was typical DC garbage. God Bless to those we lost.

    They are fine bullets.

They're not the best HP design out there, but at that price they're just fine for having some extra defensive ammo to lay around for SHTF.

I dropped the ST 9mm way back when after I found one plugged in a pine board and barely exited the 1.75" of pine. It was nearly reloadable. The R+D on 9mm since the 80's has produced much better head designs, I see no reason to carry old technology, but that doesn't mean the latest and greatest either.

I have a couple of boxes of .45 acp 230gr Silvertips which is what I carry in my G-36. They are old school but have (and can) do the job if called upon!
