    Changing a guns "diet"

Generally how many rounds/mags full do you usually need to have your EDC ingest before you can feel comfortable about it liking a certain configuration of ammo.

I am considering changing from a rounded JHP to a more "for lack of a better word" blunt one. I know my XD 40 will shoot SWC without a hickup at the range.

    Just wondereing

If the pistol is just broken-in, then I probably would run several 100 of the new ammo before being comfortable with it. If it is a gun with a little more experience, that reliably feeds every other round I have tried, then 100 of the new ammo is enough for me.

However, in either case, I would shoot several mag-fulls from each magazine for that gun. I need to knew that that round will feed from a particular mag reliably, especially the first and last round in each.

Back in August, there was a decent discussion on this very question. IMO, a couple hundred isn't enough, not in the primary carry gun (but that's just me). If a gun can swallow 1000 rds without issue, then that ammo is a good match for the gun. Otherwise, either some tuning or a different selection in ammo is required. Expensive, or cheap insurance, depending on your point of view.

OK, that's a pretty big difference in opinion.

Looking strictly at post count (propably not a real indication of shooting experience) I would put more weight in what ccw9mm posted, but more input is needed at this point.

Not that I don't agree that the price of 1k rounds of ammo is not worth more than my life or that of my loved ones. Well, maybe worth more than mine, but definately not when it comes to my 6mth old baby girl. BTW Baby Girls ROCK!!!

Sure. Call it a matter of "comfort level." On my own carry weapon, I am decidedly uncomfortable with making guesses and, for me, guesses turn into fact somewhere north of 500 rds ... more like 1000 rds. At that point, I'm comfortable with the basic package and that variations are highly likely to be due to magazine, ammo, technique, etc. Tomayto, tomahto.

    You're right: post-count doesn't mean a thing.
