Hornaday TAP FPD ammo
I was watching the show "Personal Defense" that the DVR recorded the other night, it is a Guns & Ammo TV show.
While watching it, I saw a commercial for this Hornaday TAP FPD ammo.
Has anyone fired any of this or know anything about it at all? I had not even heard of it before the commercial. Maybe I have been asleep for a few months or something, I don't know.

i use the Hornady TAP FPD it shoots great in my AR-15, 1911's, and i also use the buckshot i like it all. and it performs and is very accurate.

I needed some JHP for my 24/7 and the TAP is all my local guy had in 9mm 124gr regular pressure. Tested it out and it shoots great. Although, I haven't found anything the 24/7 doesn't like.

Mike, I'm a fan of Personal Defense too, there's four shows on shoting/guns that I DVR and PD is by far the best.
Hornady TAP is a good option, not significantly better than other HPs but judging by the amount of brass I see at my range (TAP has black cases) it is popular here.
I did a test with my new XD9SC when I bought it last week to see what it grouped better with, the TAP was comparable to the Fiocchi FMJ, but better than both by far was the CorBon Pow'R'Balls. Very tight group.
I use Pow'R'Balls in all my semi-auto carry guns, and I approve this message.

I do not think they are any better than any other premium hollow point.

I carry TAP 155gr, 40 S&W in my XD. It loves it (well, it'll eat anything, really), and I appreciate the low flash powder they use in case I have to fire in my home or at night outdoors. I agree, though, that it's just one choice of many equally capable rounds. The particular round I carry is listed from the factory to have a muzzle energy of nearly 500 ft/lb, and it's a comforting thought to know that is more impact energy than most .45 ACP +P.
By the way, what network carries that particular TV show? I haven't found anything worth watching on Dish in quite some time.

The show is on the Outdoor Life Network on Comcast

Ah, thanks! I added OLN for $1.99/month. It wasn't part of the package I got when I signed up.

Thanks for the responses guys. I might give it a look see.
I still like the Golden Saber but I am always on the lookout for any ammo that might perform better.
I would still like to get a hold of some EFMJ ammo but I still can not locate any in my area. I may have to order it from someplace.

My home defense rifle (Robinson Armament XCR) is loaded with the 75gr TAP FPD rounds. It feeds well and shoots nicely. A few weeks ago I did some testing vs. some 1 gallon jugs of water and it managed to blow two apart and punch a nice hole in the third. That seems like pretty good performance for frangible ammo, and it's about what I'm looking for: enough penetration to get to the BG's vitals, but not so much it will go through walls/BGs and keep going into adjacent apartments.
-
I heard that TAP rifle ammo is excellent, but pistol ammo is the most expensive non-expanding load (XTP bullets)! Good enough for hunting, not for self-defense.

Hmm, XTP seems to expand just fine from what I can see.
