I would not use any of the "white box" ammo like Winchester's USA , Remington's UMC, etc for defense nor would I use some of the ammo sold by places like Theammoman.com that say "For Target Practice Only" (on what I would otherwise consider LE ammo like Speer Gold Dot) or ammo marked "Reclassified Non LE Use".
In any case, I shoot a lot of what I carry before I ever carry it.

I am curious why you would not use the Winchester white box personal defense JHP? Personal experience with multiple failures? I have yet to have any problems with all the white box target and defense loads I have used. Not slamming you or anything just curious :)

The new .45 GAP Federal HST Tactical HP expands to .90 Caliber! through multiple barrier tests. I switched to the HST after carrying the Winchester Ranger T -Series (Which expands to about .75 Caliber) in my Glock 38. The HST rounds seem to perform better than Speer Gold Dots and Cor-Bon JHP's through the FBI barrier tests as well.

I like Gold Dot and DPX. They seem to be very reliable expansion wise in every test I've seen. My .380 is loaded up with DPX, my 9mm has Fed Personal Defense 135gr. hydra shoks. They are really old and I plan to shoot them at the range and switch to Double Tap Gold Dots 125gr. or DPX. I would feel fine with either one.

Currently, for the P229, depending on whether the .357 Sig barrel is in or the .40 S&W barrel is in:
.357 Sig Hornady 124 gr JHP/XTP
.40 S&W 155 gr JHP/XTP
I've ordered a few boxes of Speer Gold Dot 125 gr JHP to try out.

Corbon 45 ACP 185 Grain +P JHP
Corbon 38 SPL 110 Grain +P JHP
Corbon 38 SPL 125 Grain +P JHP
Corbon 9mm 115 Grain +P JHP DPX
Corbon 9mm 125 Grain +P JHP
Remington .357 Mag 125 Grain SJHP
Black Hills 45 ACP 230 Grain +P JHP
By the above information you can also see what I carry, caliber wise.

I had multiple failures with one batch of this stuff due to undersize rims. There wasn't enough there to grab and extract reliably.
