    9mm - +P Necessary in Large Gun?

Doing a bit of sampling with 124 gr. HST and 124 gr. +P Gold Dots for my CZ 75b.
Is +P worthwhile in a larger gun (124 gr. 9mm in this case) or probably not?
    Thanks.

I run either 124gr or 147gr HST in all my 9's. If I find +P when I'm buying ammo, I buy it. If I don't, I buy standard. That's in everything from a P938 to a 92FS. If you're looking for the absolute fastest, go +P. I don't think someone will be less injured without it when talking about premium bullets like HST or Gold Dot.
I'm not saying we should kill all the stupid people. I'm saying remove all the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.

I run plus P when I can find it but will use standard pressure if I can't. With a gold dot or HST I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Not really understanding how the size of the gun dictates the power of the ammo.

But I can see where one might opt for a larger, more powerful caliber such as Glock 17 vs 22, or a 40s&w in a cz75 vs a 9mm.

The OP was likely considering a longer barrel will give a higher velocity with the same ammo, and whether that would negate the need for +p. I am only guessing though.

From what I've read, 124gr standard-pressure HST should expand and penetrate just fine out of a full-length barrel. Actually I would expect it to do fine from a 3" barrel, which is why I carry that in my XD-SC. My only problem is not being able to find it in stores.

Here's a link to Ammoquest's research on HSTs in short barreled 9mm. Short answer: Standard pressure: less expansion, deeper penetration. +P: bigger expansion, less penetration. All passing FBI standards. From a 4" plus barrel; personal preference.

Personally, I use 147g +P HST and 147g Ranger/PDx1. They shoot the same, as I cannot tell the difference, from my Shield.
I know little on the subject so I'll speak at length.

Handguns need every fps of velocity they can get. Yes, worth it.

Why not, especially in a fullsize 9mm cz 75. Recoil on them is a non issue.

If my pistol is rated for +p then I load it with +p. Same goes for the Magnums.

I think my LCP is the only handgun I have that isn't loaded up with +P and that is because I like my pistol staying in one piece.

I never use +P in anything, I really don't think they are necessary.

What he said, I carry +p+ in guns that can handle it. When you are shooting to save your life, power is your friend.
