    Double Tap Ammo.....WOW!

    This stuff is hot!

    I bought a 150 round variety pack in 45ACP; 185, 200, 230 grain Gold Dots.

I had intention of shooting the 185 grainers in my Ultra Carry. I went to the range with them today and

Much more boom than the Blazer Brass I have been shooting and a huge muzzle flash to go with it. I don't know if these would be good to shoot in this gun or nor. Recoil was plenty manageable but the big muzzle flash really concerns me. I had this same issue with the 185 & 200 grainers. the 230 grainers seemed to have much less flash.Guess he must use a different powder in them. I'll have to shoot a few more to see if I'd be comfortable or not. The mag of Hornady TAP 200 grain +P that I shot before these had no flash at all.

Mike McNett puts out some hot stuff. I've used his 10mm stuff before and they were scorchers.

Hm. Interesting, since DT is pushing their low-flash characteristic. Used on my CZ P01 (~4" bbl) and Browning BDM (~4.75" bbl), the DT JHP +P 9mm rounds are strong, but the flash is way down from most other rounds I've tried. I'd think that has to be due to powder differences between the different rounds. Might be worth asking DT. They are extremely responsive, with Q&A.

In my case I meant speed-wise. I have been able to exceed DTs loads in several cases with my own handloads, but I felt I was really pushing the envelope.

Good to hear. I have a 500 round variety pack on order for my 10mm that should be here next week.

    Double Tap

You won't be disapointed in the 10mm, test fired my first order yesterday. Wow. 135gr JHP from a 610. Penetration, fragmentation, low recoil, 700+FPE. Pure magic.

As for the flash in .45, might just be a load that is incompatible with your short barrel. Not unusual. The best stopping power load is no good if it won't shoot in your particular gun.

I've never seen anything that compells me to buy into the idea that hot ammo in .45acp does anything but slow followup shots, batter frames and wear out barrels exponentially.

None will ever see the inside of my mags. IMHO, nothing beats fast, accurate hits with slow, fat bullets.

Sent an email to Mike expressing my concerns, I'll be interested to see what he has to say.

I figured the short barrel would have more flash, but this is really bad. No doubt my night vision would be severely compromised if I were ever to get into a confrontation. It fed perfectly and otherwise performed flawlessly, but the muzzle flash concerns me greatly. For reference, the Hornady TAP ammo that I have has virtually no flash at all.

Ping, Ping, I decided to go with the Double Tap in the short barreled Kimber in hopes of regaining some of the lost velocity in the shorter barrel. I'm sure I would be preaching to the choir if I went into a long speel about velocity and expansion so I won't bore you with that. But, it's not like these loads are nuclear or anything; they are just hotter than most other defense ammo. Controllability was not a problem.

I like the higher velociy, but the fireball isn't a good thing. Let us all know what the reply to your e-mail says.

I've never noted any fireballs or laser beams after discharging various DT 10mm loads. That stuff is great ammo.

I've never tried other DT calibers. Maybe their .45 ACP ammo doesn't utilize flash suppresants?
