Sure it does, but when that guy sneaks up behind either of us in a public restroom with a knife to take our wallets and doesn't care if we live or die, and I respond with a quick double-tap to his chest with a 9mm but you have your shotgun in the vehicle, then 9mm wins.
Left behind guns don't count, I never saw a concealed shotgun permit.

I think almost any common pistol calliber bigger than 9mm is better. But thats only my opinion. I subscribe to the philosophy that you not only win the fight by putting a hole in the bad guy first, but by putting the biggest damn hole in the bad guy.... first.
A shotgun is also my last choice for defense, and if shotgun comes into play I would rather have slugs over buckshot.
I will support gun control when you can guarantee all guns are removed from this planet. That includes military and law enforcement. When you can accomplish that, then I will be the last person to lay down my gun. Then I will carry the weapon that replaces the gun.

What I really want to know is 357 Sig as good as 357 Magnum.
How about 45 Auto vs 45 GAP
9mm vs. 9mm Kurtz
38 Spec vs. 38 S&W
You get the idea...

357sig vs 357magnum - I have seen some data that is putting 357sig it down around the class of 9mm, and I haven't seen any convincing data that it is anywhere near 357 magnum. Magnum is a hard one to beat and I think it is going to be king for a long time. Lets put it this way, would you hunt deer with sig or magnum. I say 357 magnum, I wouldn't want to have to chase the thing all over.
45 auto vs. 45 GAP - I can almost guarantee the GAP is not nearly as good as the 45 acp.
9mm vs. 9mm kurts - neither
38 spec vs 38 S&W --- I am not sure on that one.

357 sig vs 357 mag... generally the advantage goes to the mag, but as barrel length gets shorter (around 3 - 3.5"), the sig is more effective
9mm over 9mm kurtz (duh!)
38spec over 38s&w (double duh!)
