I had my first Glock malfunction this weekend, (unless you count the extended mag release not caring that the thing pressing it was a plastic holster and not a thumb) and I'm 95% sure that the ammo was to blame:

Am I correct in assuming that the ammo was mangled before it got to the gun, rather than the gun doing this to the ammo? (Ammo was Walmart WWB 100 pack)
Definitely the bullet's issue. Assembly defect on the round, don't blame the gun for that one :-)
Yes indeed - that happened during assembly of the round ... and QC did not pick it up. Probably a 1:10,000 chance.
Well, given the above opinions, plus the expert FACT that a GLOCK is absolutely 1000000% indestructible under all circumstances and that they just don't come with defects... It was the bullet that caused the issue. :D Is your gun alright?
The WWB is to blame, don't bother reporting it to them though, they won't respond.
A pistol slide would not move forward with enough momentum to do that to a pistol cartridge during the feed cycle unless the round were jammed during the feed and you whacked the rear of the slide with a mallet or a hammer in order to get that round to chamber. It's for sure an ammo manufacturing issue.
If it was premium defense ammo, or it damaged the gun I might be upset. I've shot at least 2000 rounds of WWB 9mm, and this is the first problem I've had. I just did a tap, rack, bang, and the only downside was an extra second and a half or so in my score. Better than 99.95% reliable is good enough for the very cheapest 9mm I can find locally.Quote:

Things like this happen on an automated assembly line. The factories can't visually inspect every round. I've seen factory ammo right out of the box with crushed case mouths (like this one, above), inverted bullets and primers, and reduced or no powder charge. Never found one with a double charge, tho (knock on wood).
Doesn't matter if it's Remington, Winchester, Federal, Speer or any of the others, it's happened to all of them. That's why they carry product liability insurance.
I got one of those exact bunk rounds in my Walmart 100 round value pack last weekend. I noticed it immediately and never loaded it into my magazine...pretty hard to miss really :) ..I actually was able to wiggle the bullet right out of the case
Same thing when you get a stoppage from a split case after firing, it is not the gun.Quote:
