9mm simply doesn't have enough ooomph to get a 147gr. round up to velocities high enough to cause reasonable penetration into the target. This is exacerbated by expanding rounds like Ranger, Gold Dot, etc., which begin expanding quickly and lower the penetration further.

At 4.02" the G19 barrel is not considered short, especially considering 9mm loads are developed for 4" barrels.

9mm and .40 loads are designed for 4" barrels, .45 loads are designed for 5" barrels.

Not true. Several 147gr loads have the ability to achieve adequate penetration.

    Good manufacturer, good round.
Place them properly and they will do the job.

    Why post nonsense like this?

Heavier bullets penetrate deeper than lighter ones, in 9mm and in many other (all?) calibers. The only question of interest is whether or not the 147s will expand.

This report got me to switch from Federal Personal Defense to 147gr Speer Gold Dots out of my XD9SC (3.1" Barrel).

My glock 19 is going to be my back-up gun for my S&W .500 4" barrel.
