    Hi Josh,

I opted for the 158 grain LSWCHP+P as that's what I've been using for many years, usually WW or Remington. It might not be the best loading for the .38, however, it is certainly far from the worst. Even if it doesn't expand, you still have a heavy, flat-nose, semi-wadcutter bullet that ought to account for itself.

The older I get, the less concerned I am over "best load", "best caliber", or "best gun" issues. Within reason, go with what works for you and, most of all, what you have confidence in...and confidence is a major factor in close personal combat.

[QUOTE=myusername;425797]I would like to see more tests using those magtechs. In the ones I've seen they have not expanded. They are made to be like the DPX/Taurus ammo with the barnes bullet. The DPX expands nicely, i would like to see the differences in how they are made.

This is not quite correct. The Magtech ammo that the poster shows in his photo is the "Guardian Gold" ammo, which is a lead core, jacketed HP - the jacket just covers the inside of the cavity also so it appears to be like a DPX or barnes on the outside. The difference is that DPX and Barnes' bullets are solid copper HP's - no lead in them.

Side note to my last post - Magtech's "First Defense" line of ammo has a solid copper HP that is a clone to the DPX - not sure of it's performance though.

In factory loads I concur with the above probably in everything from 135gr to 158gr JHP.

However in my M642, the "carry" cylinder is loaded with the MagSafe SWAT load. The back up right now is a Silvertip 158gr. +P But that's pretty much all I have on hand right now.
