    Double Tap .380

Its finally out. 1000fps from a kel-tec and 1100 in a bersa. Uses a Gold Dot bullet.

I'll probably pick up a couple of boxes soon. I wish I had a place to test it to see if it will give me anything over the DPX I currently carry.

Wasn't aware of this one, thanks for the tip. I had all but settled on DPX for my PPK (still in layaway) but it sounds like I need to check these out as well.

I may just dust off my PPK/S currently residing in the safe...

While accurate and reliable it was not a pleasure to shoot... blowback actions can hurt. I wonder how it will feel with these?

Just answered my own question - loaded with 90 grain Speer Gold Dots that get 242 FPE from a Bersa 3.5 inch barrel at 1100FPS. Thats pretty darn impressive for a 380 using a full weight bullet. I'm going to have to order these - and the Gold Dot's a proven bullet.

My only question is if this load is safe for repeated use in a blowback, fixed barrel action like the PPK/Bersa line?

I think you may experience too-high slide velocity and peening against the frame if you do not change the springs. Just a WAG.

Sounds like good stuff, but let's wait on a field test. With the .380, it's has got to show good penetration before we can get excited about any expansion.

Gold Dots and Double Tap both have good reputations, so I have high hopes.

Thanks for the heads-up; I've been waiting for McNett's .380 for some time.

I contacted Mike M. at Double Tap yesterday and got quick responses to my questions from him.

YES - the 380 load is 100% safe to use in a blowback action and definitely safe to use in a Bersa 380 - that is one of the test pistols that he used when working up the load and testing it. Said he got great results accuracy wise.

YES - the 380 load is within SAAMI specs. Just loaded up to the upper end of it with better powders is my guess.

    Just ordered some from Mike!

Well, I just bought some of Mike McNett's 95-grain FMJ .380 for the P232. It's advertised as doing 1085 fps from a Bersa and 975 fps from a Kel-Tec (which is really smoking from a Kel-Tec - they tend to chrono about 150 fps slower than that with "regular" factory ammo). All within SAAMI specs - got to love it.

You know how I like the idea of an adequately penetrative round. I feel secure this will do the job (heck, the regular .380 ball works), and I look forward to trying it out.

I also got some of his 180-grain Gold Dot hollowpoints for my .40 P239. They're advertised at 1050 fps from a 3.5" tube, so we'll see how they do out of my SIGarms pistol.

McNett's chrono reporting has always been accurate according to my readings (I've shot a bunch of his 10mm). I'm looking forward to seeing how the new .380s do - apparently they're just flying off the shelves out there in UT. By the way, you can now buy Double Tap through Midway (though not the "next year's model" .380 loads yet), and you may soon be able to buy it through Sportsman's Warehouse.

    I'll keep you posted. BTW

I want to order some. Do you guys know if I can have ammo shipped to a PO box? I don't think they will leave it at my door and I'm never home in the day time so a PO Box would be good for me.

Back when I was still working I use to have things shipped to my Mom's house since I didn't want anything left outside our apartment door. Any friends or family you could use as a shipping address?

DITTO. I shoot his 45ACP loads and his 10mm loads and they are great.

Don't know if Double Tap will ship to a PO box or a different address than what's on your driver's license - Double Tap requires you to fax or mail a copy of your license before they will ship ammo- to verify age as well as shipping address matching.
