I'm currently looking at buying a Henry Big Boy .357 to go along with my .357 revolver. I was just curious as to the estimated difference in the velocity of a .357 in a 20 inch barrel compared to my revolver's 4 inch.
A better way to find out is to look at powder manufacturer's websites. They list reloading data for free, and you can look up for .357 handgun and .357 rifle separately. I'll give you a taste here:
Hornady lists about a 500 fps increase with the same load going from handgun to rifle. (7th Edition - w/ 125 gr bullets)
that shows you what i know. i would have guessed maybe 200 fps going from a "long" revolver barrel- say 4 1/2 inches, to a rifle barrel. i had always (incorrectly i guess) supposed that they loaded the 357 rounds to basically max out in a longish revolver barrel.
Six for sure...Uh, I mean Five. Five for sure..
