Federal Tactical Buckshot with Flite Control is the real deal. Buy some boxes and give it a go to prove it to yourself.

    TACTICAL® BUCKSHOT
NEW! Welcome to a revolution in buckshot cartridge design.
Federal Premium® has turned shotshell technology 180 degrees with the new FLITECONTROL™ Wad. This exciting and innovative shotshell system delivers the tightest buckshot patterns available for law enforcement—all without expensive barrel alterations or aftermarket choke tubes. Tactical Buckshot also features copper-plated shot and recoil reduction that, when combined with the FLITECONTROL wad, result in the most dependable and predictable pattern performance available. Tactical also features a solid brass head for reliable function—not brass-plated steel that can swell and cause extraction issues. To top it off, all Federal Tactical Shotshell offerings are loaded with the unique and famous, Basic-Lead Styphnate 202 primer. Federal Premium Tactical Buckshot is offered in reduced recoil 8 and 9 pellet 00, and a full power 9 pellet 00 for semi-automatic shotguns. New Tactical Buckshot featuring FLITECONTROL transforms the most basic police shotgun into a precision shooting tool.

I was thing of throwing some slugs in my sidesaddle. May I ask your reasoning / tactical scenario in mind?

If I have expended my magizine and must reload then BG is probably behind hard cover and I would want to shoot through it.

Plus I have the option of doing a quick load with a slug in case I didn't want the speard of 00

I keep 1 round of #8 in the tube, large pattern area, likely to hit the guy even in a panic situation. Then 2 #4's, then 00 Bucks in the rest of the tube. Slugs in the side saddle as per the reasoning above.

0-0 Buck for the Rossi Coach Gun (side by side) w/exposed hammers. The Butt cuff has 5rd of 00 Buck.

#4 Buck for the Benelli M121. I have a backup "Pancho Villa" style Bandalero in case the action becomes protracted. There are about 50rds of 00 Buck in that.

Actually now that I check, I've got a box of 000 shot that I completely forgot about. Wonder what that'll do to a milk jug...

Low recoil 00 Buck works for me. I'm not too much worried about a pattern at " in house " distances. Go pattern your gun at 5 to 10 yards and see what I mean.

I shot a box of the Fed flitecontrol
    00 and got a 4" pattern at 15 yards.

At 10 yards the buckshot was just
    beginning to leave the shotcup,i
could cover the pattern with a silver dollar.

This was the reduced recoil load
fired from a Mossberg 500A with
    a 18.5" cylinder bore barrel.

#7 field load in the gun. Rifled slugs in sidesadle.
#7's at doorway distance is more than enough to stop the attack, without the overpenetration of hi brass stuff.
Slugs for greater distance and more precision.

If he's close enough to point n shoot (snap shoot) with a long gun, the #7 will do fine.
Far enough to aim, (time being considered) and/or plan for, then a well placed slug will be my preference.
