    Best .38+P with 4" Barrel?

I have a Taurus 608 .357 8-shot revolver for the house but I don't want to use the full load .357's. Right now it's carrying Corbon .38 125gr. +P (1125fps) which I know is among the best choices in .38. I am also going to try the .357 Golden Saber's which are reduced velocity .357's and are the same grain bullet but with a little more energy. Are there any other loads on this level I should consider?

Buffalo Bore ammo is a possibility.

+1 on what the Cap'n says

I also would look at Speers Gold Dotline

The short barrel GD from Speer is excellent.

Thanks, I asked this question on another thread but no answer...

How does the short barrel GD do out of a 4" barrel? I would expect even more expansion but you never know since it was designed specifically for SB's? Do you know of any tests available online where they used a 4" barrel??

I don't know of any testing done but I have a 4" GP100 on the way and I'll fire a couple rounds and see. I don't have a camera so I wouldn't be able to post pics. If it's excellent from a snubby, it should be just as good from a 4".

If I still had my snub I would definately use the SB Gold Dots but with the Taurus 8-shooter I'm loading 125gr. Corbons (1125fps) and I can't see the Gold Dots outperforming that at around 200fps less? But I would be very interested in how the GD's do in your GP100

Basically I'm looking for the hottest .38+p or a medium velocity .357.

This is getting to be old data but I tested some Winchester +P 158 grain SWC-HP ammunition about 10 years ago that clocked around 980 fps from my S&W Model 10 and 920 fps from my 2-inch Chief's Special.

I'm old-fashioned, but this load (or Remington's or Federal's) would be my choice as well.
