What SD Ammo to feed my new P220, he's hungry?

Any suggestions for what to feed my P220. Looking for good suggestions regarding Vendor and weights e.g. 165,185 200 or 230. Is there a particular bullet weight you may suggest for winter attire?

    Thanks,

    Dave

I am sure you will get lots of responses on this one. I carry Winchester Ranger 230gr in my 45. Good luck with your search.

When it comes to .45ACP you need to work hard to get the wrong load from any of the major companies.

For the sake of throwing something into the discussion, I always liked the 185 XTP and Golden Sabers, but quite frankly, I'll use anything from a reputable manufacturer that I can get for the best price.

If you want a good round cheap, try black hills 185 grain JHP from the re-manufactured line.

    BH quality at low prices.

Federal HST would be my suggestion.

Far more important, though, is what feeds flawlessly in your gun. The latest, greatest super-duper bad guy slaying JHP design is useless if it FTFs when you really need it......

Be warned P220's are hungry beasts.
Mine will absolutely eat any and all brands of ammo.

The SIG 220 is actually quite famous for its uncanny ability to digest nearly everything.

    Sig 220 food

I use the same in my 220 as I do in my 1911's, namely Winchester Silvertip (185) and Federal 230 HydraShok. For practice, I use 230 gr FMJ. Due to the alloy frame I have resisted using +P loads, although I doubt I could shoot enough of them to harm the gun; I just don't see the need. The 220 is my most accurate .45 and the aforementioned HydraShoks are the most accurate load of those I've tried. The least accurate defense load in MY gun is 230 gr Golden Sabers - but, YMMV.

I thought about sharing the following email quote from Sig's CS...

    Dave,

Thank you for your email and support of our products!

+P is fine to use as a defensive round or for occasional range use. Continual use of this round will make it necessary for more frequent service on the pistol.

We only recommend ammunition loaded to SAAMI / CIP performance standards. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure ammunition selection meets the proper criteria.

    Sincerely,

American Eagle 230gr FMJ, Goes bang every time, leaves big holes and, most important, can afford a lot of practice. The most epensive bullet in the world is worthless if you cannot put it on target with great consistancy. Practice, practice and then practice some more.
