    Speer Gold Dot Personal Protection

Are these rounds really as good as people say they are?

Are they up there with the Remington defense rounds?

Gold Dots are considered one of the best defensive ammo brands on the market. I used to carry them, until I found Federal HSTs.

I love Gold Dots. I've never had to use one on a live target but they're mean on gel, watermelons, and other odd targets. Very reliable. Very consistent.

Federal does make good rounds. I always loaded the shotguns with Federal 00 Buck...after trying just about everything else out there, I found Federal was what I was looking for.

Federal doesn't have much to offer when it comes to .380 though.

I've read that a lot of law enforcement uses Gold Dots. Is this true?

They are fine, but you still have to do your part.

Gold dots are some of the best ammo out there. They tend to hold up very well when shooting through glass and hard targets. Although I must say our local law enforcement decided to pass on them when they had feeding issues with the 200 grain +P through their 1911s

My 220 loves to eat the 200gr. +P rounds, and takes the recoil really well.

The Ranger Talons and Gold Dots are both very consistent performers. Of the two, I prefer the Ranger a little bit better, but I have to special order from a guy in Norfolk, and have it shipped. Gold Dots are readily available and less expensive, but they perform as reliably both in expansion and penetration.

Speer makes very good ammo. Just be sure they feed through you weapon. The 45 acp did not feed well through my Colt. Remington GS, on the other hand, has been a reliable brand.
