How to set up the "Wet Newspaper" test?

I have been wanting to test out different loads etc...on wet newspaper. My question is how is this typically done? Just lay down a hundred pages and soak 'em down or what? How about a drenched Grand Rapids phone book? Just wondering...

Just as long as they're soaking wet and don't have lots of gaps. Its not the most consistent test just a good approximate indicator. Go for it!

Not sure if Steve Camp describes his method - I think he does so - try hipowersandhandguns - his site. Otherwise I expect a Google on ''wetpack'' might help too.

I personally make a bundle which when still dry is at least 12" thick - more is better depending on ammo to be used - 15" to 18" I prefer. Bundle up and Duct Tape IMO works best as cord can break too easily.

Place in water for 24 hours prior to use and on shooting day remove from water and allow to drain an hour or so .... then wrap in polythene to take to range and keep wet.

Take a sharpie to mark entry holes for later reference and when back home cut off tape and ''dismantle the pack - to find the bullets at whatever depth and note the details.

    Wetpack

Where I work, we pack newspaper in an old 5 gallon bucket, add a couple drops of soap, and fill with water. When it all soaks in, fill it up again. Totally ready in about 2 or 3 hours with two or three refills needed. If the pack is dry in the middle, soak only 1/2 at first, or use more soap, or wait longer. It will stop most anything that is appropriate for self defense. It's so much neater than loose paper bundles, and if you want to shoot a non-expanding round or a hunting round, .50AE, etc, you can always stack 2 buckets. You can usually get about 4-5 shots in before you have to dig them out and repack. Otherwise you risk hitting a bullet with a bullet. Impressive and neat, but a waste of a shot. After a while the paper chunks up and the "wound paths" overlap after repacking, so smaller bullets get harder to find. If you're shooting multiple calibers, start with the small stuff and end with the big. Latex EMS gloves help keep your hands clean, too.
