Cor Bon 44 mag ammo
I recently purchased some Cor Bon 165gr JHP ammo for my 4" 629. Is there any record of this ammo being used in SD and if so what was the result?

Not yet
But I got a deal on several boxes a couple years ago and keep it in my 629 that does occasional CCW and OC duty. It's very good, accurate ammo, and not too terrible to shoot recoil-wise. I see no reason to change until I run out.

I just looked through some of my info on self defense rounds and couldn't find anything on 44 mag Corbon or info on a 165 grain 44 mag load. That's a light bullet for 44 mag; so, my guess, and guess only, it should be a fairly hot round with good potential. Sorry I don't have a better answer. Corbon's site might have more info.

This info is from my last test with our 44 Mag 165 JHP.
4" 629 fired into 10% ballistic gelatin with a 4 layer denim barrier:
Velocity - 1333 FPS
Penetration - 12.75"
Recovered diameter - .81"
Temprorary stretch cavity was enormous compared to any other handgun rounds tested that day.

That's pretty much what I'd expected. If a 125 gr. .357 bullet travelling at 1400 fps is a good stopper then a 165 gr. .429 bullet at 1300 fps should do at least as well.
