    +p is Plus Power or plus pressure .. it mean it is hotter than Normal ammo +P+ same thing but hotter than +P ..

    Saami Set the Pressure specs for each round .. and a +P exceeds the Specs they set..

    does a hotter burn equate to a higher velocity or bigger flash?

    I equate +P to a Magnum load for that particular ammo..it has a wee bit more umpfff to it than a regular load

    Not quite magnum, but the analogy is sound. +P are about 10 percent 'hotter' IIRC. Magnums can be 50 percent or much more. Just fire a .38 and a .357 in the same gun to see the difference.

    As a general rule, it also means higher cost per round and more wear to your gun.

    There are also Express loads, which are located between standard and +P loads. Remington and Black Hills market Express loads.
