Question Which .40 cal ammo is best if.....?

I live in an apartment and I need something that wont overpenetrate and go through to other rooms or apartments if I ever have to fire in a defensive situation. I know this question is broad and there will be a lot of opinions and maybe some facts. Thanks in advance for all input.

By the way, I currently use Hornady TAP/FPD .40 cal, 155gr JHP ammunition.

I cant think of a single decent self defense round that wont penetrate most apartment walls

My ex-wife had an AD with a 9mm that went through a dresser, the wall behind it,across the hallway, through another wall, through a toy box, a metal closet door, the closet wall coming to rest in a closet in the next room after leaving a dent in the metal door there.

It all depends on what it hits along the way. In her case, no studs or clothing. It just hit the sheetrock and a box of toys and a thin metal door after making a nice small hole in my dresser.

One of the frangible rounds like the Glaser Safety Slug or Mag Safe would probably be your best bet. They are expensive and have other limitations but they do work as advertised. When I lived in an apartment years ago, my "house" gun was a GP100 loaded with Glasers backed up with a speedloader of conventional jhps.

I agree that Glaser might be your best choice. Their downside, of course, is that they may not penetrate far enough to stop the BG, especially if heavy clothing is in the way.

Any defensive round that will penetrate a BG will easily go thru apartment walls.

Woodlark is right, the standard blue Glaser might not penetrate enough. They developed the silver Glaser for added penetration through heavier, winter clothing. I'd probably use the silver exclusively.

Glaser may or may not penetrate an apartment wall, but it will certainly not penetrate a BG. I wouldn't go to the extreme and use an elephant gun, but I wouldn't trust my life to something that can't get to the vitals of my attacker. JMO

I've decided that glasers get some of the MOST mixed reviews i have EVER seen out of ANY ammo discussed. Therefore i'm going to test it and post. Expect results in a month ish (Schools hard this semester) BY test it i mean shooting from various distances at different thicknesses of type x firewall (fire "resistant" drywall) commonly found in homes (in arid cities) and apartment complexs all over.

The Box O' Truth - Ammo Penetration testing has done some, it penetrated less than standard rounds but still penetrates walls. It would be good to see other tests as well. Please keep us posted.

I'd stick to my normal rounds and practice enough that I'm not missing what I shoot at.

Well thanks for all the input guys. Looks like I'm gonna stick with my regular defense rounds.
