Found a little old school ammo today

Had someone drop off a pouch of old .38's today that had been his fathers. Mostly old LRN Remington Peters, but there in the bottom I found these.

And the head stamp? Any guesses? Some of you other "old timers" ought to recognize this!

Been a few years since I've seen any of this stuff.....

Nice find! I've heard of that stuff, although I'm no old timer. I imagine you could sell it for a good price - or use it for SD even.

Keep those Eric - they have to be collectible now.

Super Vel was the cats meow back n their day. Pretty hot stuff for factory loads back then.

My memory isnt what it used to be, but I believe that they first came out in the mid 60's. I never bought any because it was too expensive for my meager budget back then. Probably cost $10 or more for a box of 50.

Now there's a trip in the way-back machine!

Of course, if you remember the way-back machine, you'll probably remember Super Vels too.....

Yeah sonny, I 'member them from the olden days. We had them kind a' bullets just after we left off percussion caps and went to the new fangled metallic cartridges. Did I tell ya' about the time...

    Super Vel?

I believe it was the '70's, not 60's. I met Lee Jurras in 1976 in
    Artesia, New Mexico.

The Company went out of business not long afterwards. I never saw
him again and don't know what happened to him.

Lee Jurras still posts occasionally on a sixgunner forum, though it is not Sixgunner.com anymore, as that one went under as technology moved past what the servers could handle, or something like that. I will look it up later today and get back with y'all.

I've got a couple boxes of it. My grandpa had all his guns loaded with it when he gave them to me a few years ago.

He shot a guy that was breaking into his bar with his .38 special. The guy was wearing a leather jacket and the bullet didn't penetrate it. He switched to super vel after that.
