I carry one mag loaded with 90gr Hydra shock
and a spare mag of 95 gr FMJ
I don't do the alternating round bit. Makes me feel indecisive.
I want FMJ in my .380 as I want to be as certain as I can be that the bullet will penetrate.
Remington is best. DPX is second best.
I personally believe in using some sort or PD HP round. I use either Gold Dots or Critical Defense and I choose these based on what I believe important.
Here is some good reading. Pocket Guns and Gear: Ammo tests The info there is just one of many (good) sources of info you will find here on this topic.
Just my $.02
For .380 and smaller I prefer FMJs. If a JHP is called for in the .380, it is the 102 gr. Golden Saber.
Since this is a 5 year old thread, I think it is OK to start a new one.
Admittedly I don't own a .380, but if I did I would go with a heavy HP round. If it doesn't expand you will still get the penetration of a FMJ.
I use Winchester PDX1 95gr for my 380 for home and personal protection. It will not penetrate as deep as a FMJ but I don't want the bullet to go thru the BG and into my neighbors house or hit a bystander if I am out and about.
