Best 9mm carry ammo for G19?
Hello all, I carry a Glock 19 and need a good carry ammo with a focus on not over penatrating, I also use it for home defense and have a pretty small house so any encounters would be at a distance of no more than 20 ft. I currently carry Federal 124 gr. hydra-shocks. I was thinking about moving to the 147 gr. Any suggestions?

I don't have a glock 19 anymore, but before I sold it to my brother I used DoubleTap Ammunition +P 147 JHP. With that said I don't think you need to change if you are using Federal 124 gr. hydra-shocks.
I believe in gun control...... Thats why I use TWO hands.

+1 on the 124 gr hrdrya-shoks. Affordable and nasty.

I also carry the 124gr Hydra-Shok. The main reason is they are easier to find. I have 5 boxes of the 147 gr, and I do not like the performance out of my G19. I do like the Speer Gold Dot 147 gr, however.

OK great! Thanks for the tips! A friend of mine who carries a Sig 9mm said he carried the 124 gr as well! Looks like I might stick with that then. So I shouldn't be too worried about over penetration with the 124gr?

Less so than with the 147gr, IMO. Any capable self-defense round is going to penetrate interior walls, period, so don't think you'll find a way around that. If the 124gr rounds are reliable and accurate in your 19 (and they should be, my agency has a LOT of G19s that see a LOT of 124gr Hydra-Shoks) I wouldn't change just for the sake of changing.
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

That which functions flawlessly, is dead on accurate, penetrates acceptably and is available in 50 round boxes for a reasonable price is best.

It matters more that you can hit your target. Speed is fine but
accuracy is final.

Yep, anything that will penetrate a BG will also penetrate a wall. Lighter bullets (not bonded) generally will penetrate less and be more likely to break up. Pretty much anything should work. It is only a handgun so don't expect a miracle. Just my two cents...

I use 124 +P Gold Dots in my G19. Good accuracy and performance. The HS are good bullets and if you like the way they shoot, your good to go. The 147 used to had a bad rap for a while because of over-penetration in soft targets and not enough in hard targets. Don't know what's changed with the newer generation of bullet but I like the 124 class the best overall.

Thank you again all! This has been very helpful. So I am thinking I am going to stick with the 124gr Hydra-shocks I have been using.

Glock 19
I carry 124 Hydra Shok or 124 Gold Saber in mine depending on what we happen to have in stock at the gunshop. I like both, my G19 shoots them good and reliable, and I don't worry about it at all.

Very interesting reading... I think I'll be buying some 124 Hydra Shok's on my next trip for defensive rounds.
