I never did find a reliable load in my Kahr PM9. Sold it, after running ~100 rds through it following coming back from the Kahr shop in specific attempt to cure significant failures to feed/eject.

My suggestion: Pick several rounds of suitable performance, then run the gun through a battery of tests. When you are comfortable that your specific gun works exceptionally well with a given round, then select that one and sleep well at night.

Federal HST 147g for me. I've read here that the Winchester Ranger 147g (RA9T) works well also.

Will 147 gr get going enough to expand from shoot barrel?

Great answer, I would also stay away from +P ammo in that little pistol.

Yes. (I guess I should ask how short a barrel?) The heaver bullet acelerates slower, and by spending more time in the barrel, the powder burns more completely and the round loses less velocity (as a percentage of being fired from a longer barrel) than a light bullet. Hope that makes sense, pretty tired. Anyhow, check out the 9mm data in the link.

My PM9 feeds the Speer Gold Dots the best. It will handle the HST's, but after shooting hundreds of each, the Speer GD's have never let me down. I like the lower recoil and better penetrating 147gr variety.

DPX, expensive but will penetrate denim, leather, glass windshields and still expand nicely.

I couldn't vote because you don't have my ammo. I carry Remington 124 gr. standard pressure Golden Sabers. Have never had a malfunction with them in my PM-9. Published ballistics are 1125 fps with 349 fpe out of a 4" barrel.
