Who is top of the league -

    Re defensive ammo that is?

I am a great fan of Speer Gold Dots, maybe cos I have done quite a lot of testing with the 9mm's in the R9. The expansion seems very consistent.

I know a few folks like RCBD stuff tho have yet to get any personal experience.

I know some will have .380 but let's say ''9mm and up''. What strikes you as the current best offering - based on, if possible, personal evaluation.

We want, almost obviously, minimal over-penetration but good wound generating potential - but don't lets forget the effects of thick clothing either!

I think consistant shot placement is most important. Any of the new HP's will suffice for me, Gold dots, hydro shoks or silvertips, As well as many others designed for personsal defense. The only bullets I stay away from are the fragmenting , such as mag safes. I want more penetration than these provide.

I can't say I'm religious about it, but I do like Corbon. Actually anything using the big Speer HPs, at high velocity works for me.

Here in South Florida, MagSafe and Glaser (Silver) work fine. For me it's almost as much an issue of not hitting friendlies by ricchochet or a miss. If the round hits a solid object it just "powders" and that's attractive in an urban tropical environment. But if I venture into colder areas, I carry the new Hornady TAP or Hydra-Shoks or similar.

    Federal 125gr JHP for my 357mag SP101 3

I guess its all about preferance, a lot of people carry differant rounds in their spare mags compared to the in gun mag. http://www.combatcarry.com/vbulletin...ght=hydrashock

    Federal Hydra-shock .45acp 230gr.

I have tried a couple different brands. The Federal seems to be the most available in my area. Most important it feeds 100% in my 1911. Not that other brands would not feed as well I just do not want to spend the money to prove it to myself. The premium SD ammo is pretty pricey.

I do plan on giving Cor-bon a try though.

After asking for opinions here and reading as much as I could as I have no way to actually test it myself, I went with 165 grain Remington Golden Sabres for my .40 caliber pistols. For revolvers I use various weights and calibers of Speer Gold Dots. I think there are other products that are just as good but you have to pick one and run with it.

    Federal 45 ACP 230gr HydraShoks.
I have done a great deal of testing these in wet newspaper and they never fail to expand, have good penetration an feed reliably in both of my carry guns.
