I traded in my PPK/s on a Glock 26 today. After much soul searching and reading all of the good advice on DC, I decided to upgrade to a 9mm EDC pistol. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good self defense load for a short barrel 9mm?![]()

I run Speer Gold Dot 115 or 124 grain JHP's. I'll be interested in the answers too though - to see what might be better out there.

I have used Federal HST's (124g) exclusively in my G26 for the last 4 years. They may or may not be the best thing out there, but they were, until recently, inexpensive enough to use in IDPA or at the range.
I broke out a box (50) I bought a 2-3 years ago, marked $12.50. Same as I am paying for FMJ now.

I'd go with the Speer 124gr GDHP also. I don't have a G26, but I like them for my G17 and G19. Stick with what works right? I'd have a G26, but since I went with the G27 for the baby Glock, I really don't see the need.
The wife has one with 124gr Hydra shok in it. She has used 124 Gold Saber in the past. I think the lighter, standard pressure JHPs are best in the short barrel. The 147gr is too slow and the +p too noisy and kicks too much.
Corbon 115 +P JHP.
My 26 hardly moves off target with these.
Very easy to control and very accurate.
These are the standard Corbon +P's, not the DPX.

I load mine with the Winchester 124gr +p Ranger or the 124gr +p Speer GDHP. No complaints with either load.

The only test I have done is how they
recoil and shoot. To me almost no recoil in the 26.
Wife had no problem staying on target either.

I have 3 loads that I use in my 9mm pistols.
CorBon 115 Grain +P DPX
CorBon 115 Grain +P
CorBon 125 Grain +P
I much prefer the DPX, but can't always get it.
DPX or GD124+p my preferred loads depending on which load shoots best in my 9mms. Based this on recoil, accuracy, chronograph & wetpack tests w/a number of loads.
I see that some are recommending the 124 grain weight in either the Speer GDs or the Remington GSs. I bought a couple of boxes of GS 124+P at the Cabelas store near where I live and shot a few rounds today. Not bad at all, the recoil was almost the same as the DPXs out of my PPK/s. Thank you all for the good advice you have given me!![]()
Personally, I'm going with this combo:
