    .380 Black Talons

A friend of mine gave me 7 rounds of the old Winchester Black Talons. I do not know the weight as he did not have the box.

I was wondering if these are safe to put through a Kel-tec P3AT? He shot his through a S&W Sigma .380.

I have been carrying my 3AT as a BUG lately and am trying to figure out the best ammo to carry in it.

    Thanks.

They probably will be okay provided they were stored in a cool dry place and are not corroded or damaged in any way. Right now the Corbon DPX 80 grain all copper hollowpoint is the best SD ammo for the P3AT. This load was practically designed for your gun and its 2.75" barrel. Buffalo Bore has several +P loads also, but I would be a little hesitant to try those in the P3AT. The pistol would probably take a light diet of them, however the recoil would be stout to put it mildly.

Buy the modern Ranger Talon .380 rounds and shoot off the old black talons.

I agree. I wouldn't just put them in the gun to carry. You need to run a couple of boxes through to see how they feed before relying on them for P.P.

Golden Sabre 102gr, bigger bullet is the way for the 380.

You'd better off with FMJ than the Black Talons.

Wow. Those Black Talons were hot. Big difference when I went to the 95gr Blazer target ammo, they were mild next to the talons.

But all the talons fed without a problem. I forgot that it is not too much fun to shoot the P3AT. Maybe I'll stick with my j frames as BUGs.

I would buy new ammo - you have to shoot any ammo more than 7 times to know if it is reliable in your gun. Save them - I'd probably by 1 at a gun show as a piece of gun history.

In any case, as good a round as they were in their day, the newest generations of JHPs by major manufacurers are light years ahead of the evil old Black Talons
