Yoda, I am, yes.
A guy in our shop class... put a bullet in a vise and began cranking down on it. It went off... and the bullet went into the back of a friend of mine. He goes up to the teacher and say "I think I've been shot". The teacher, tired of all our pranks, etc.... tells him "get back to your desk". At which he says... "really, I think I have been shot" and shows him that the hand he had on his back where he was hit was soaked with blood. The teacher lost every bit of cool that he may have ever had.
It didn't do much, no velocity .... but it did penetrate enough to go thru his shirt, break in thru the skin and cause lots of bleeding.
Thanks for all the advice folks!

Got a pond or canal nearby? Penetrating oil will NOT render powder or primers inactive from the outside of a round unless you've got a gallon of it and and a couple of years to wait. Set them aside until you find someone capable of either disassembling or SAFELY disposing of them. Probably bunch of guys at your range quite capable. I would really hate to see or hear about an accidental discharge of a round that could have easily been avoided. It also sounds like your wife sees it that way too.

Our range has a barrel full of water for just such a purpose.

water doesn't always work most military ammo has sealed bullets and primers to keep moisture from penetrating,Navy seals want their guns to go bang when they pull the trigger, ask some nam vets how often their ammo got wet and submerged during patrols during monsoon season
