    New Model 637 and Glasers??

can't quite shake this revolver thing in me.

After my horrid experience with the Ruger Sp101 DAO.

My wife pushed me to buy the much lighter in weight,
    and smoother/lighter trigger pull, Smith!

The price was better than the Ruger, and it doesn't feel like a brick in my pocket on on my belt.

    My question is:

Anyone carry 38+P Glasers for defense?

Do they shoot to point of aim or are the high or low?

Has anyone ever shot a Snake with a Glaser?

The other load that I hear/see is popular SPEER 135 gr.+P Gold Dots.

Sound impressive, but I live 4 miles from the Speer factory and can't
find this ammo in any local shops.

I will appreciate input from old revolver hands.

    I carry the Speer load.

It's about 3" low at 25 Yards out of my 442, close enough for government work.

I don't use Glasers in my 637. I carry .38 Federal Hydrashock rounds.

Glazers work real well on snakes. But worked very poorly on a wild 90-lb hog

so I stopped carrying them and went to Federal Hydrashock

I use 38sp +P Glasers and other pre fragmented rounds

I am in the minority being in favor of both Glaser and MagSafe. I really like the accounts I have read about in combination with stopping power on human targets (not plastic gallon jugs of water) and the total lack of bounces on a missed shot that minimizes risk to bystanders. They're pretty low recoil but they can be LOUD in the +P loading. Also pretty low muzzle flash except in a snub nose where everything has muzzle flash guaranteed to blow your night vision.

However, I have to emphasize the point that I only would use these in my neck of the woods which is to say, South Florida. You know that tropical paradise where people wear really thin clothes when they wear complete sets of clothes to start with. So I don't have to worry about pre-fragmented rounds breaking up too soon to do damage. If I lived someplace cooler, I'd be loading Cor-Bon DPX or Winchester HST's +P+ or something along those lines.

Yesterday I shot some at a gal jug of water. They tended to shoot high and left and right; however, having posted that, they would have done the job if it had been a real SD event.
I believe if I had been closer I might have a nicer accuracy report.
Oh, when I hit the jug I had water 10-12 ft in the air.

    Lightbulb To answer your questions....

    I didn't answer your questions.

#1 My Glasers and MagSafe loads tend to shoot high since they are so much lighter. But I also think that the light weight lessens the effective range and in a SD scenario, I think the outside range is going to be about 7-10 yards give or take. They'll do the job at those ranges for certain.

#2 Funny you should ask! When I first started going up to see my new (then) in-laws in upstate FL they were living on an air park since my wife's pop was a pilot and flew the PITTS stunt plane like the WWII ACE he was (18 air to air kills) and of course they had this huge old hangar that also doubled as a storage space.

One day I was watching tv and heard this screaming from the hangar and first sprinted upstairs to grab my 1911 loaded with GLASERS. I didn't know what the threat was and I wanted to be ready. So I got to the AO and found everybody scared (correctly so, too!) of the huge water moccasin in the rear of the shed area. He was mad.

So I sidled up pretty close but outside strike range and fired. Blew his head clean off with the first shot but since I practice the tried and true HAMMER I had another shot tripped off before the empty case of the first hit the ground and the second one blew the snake in two just below the head or where the head USED to be!

In the confined space the shots were amazingly soft sounding and muzzle flash negligible. I wasn't wearing ear protection so I was surprised. Also there was absolutely ZERO lead splash or bounced lead. That was very cool.

The rest of the day, POP was showing the pieces of the snake off and crowing to everybody in the area about how his son-in-law (whom he was now referring to as his SON--me, lol) had nailed a killer snake.
